    Custom-built equipment

Some of the most useful things in a plant are not on anybody's catalogue page. A stand that holds a particular assembly at a particular height. A trolley that moves a heavy part safely between two machines. A bracket that mounts something the manufacturer never intended to mount there.

They get made because someone on the floor was tired of doing it the difficult way.

    What this covers

Stands and frames — for holding, supporting or presenting an assembly during work or in service.

Brackets and mountings — where equipment has to be fitted to something it was not designed for, or where the original mounting has failed and needs to be made stronger than it was.

Trolleys and handling equipment — for moving heavy or awkward items around a workshop or plant without lifting them by hand.

Purpose-built units — complete assemblies built for one job, including mobile units mounted on a trailer where the work has to travel.

Emergency equipment — emergency showers and emergency trailers.

Plant equipment — fire hose reels, fire-fighting equipment, mixer arms, cooler coils and brick machine parts.

Oxygen storage — oxygen storage built for a client.

Trophies and scale models — a scale model of part of a plant, built as a farewell trophy. It is a tradition: when someone leaves, we build them a small model of a piece of the plant they worked on.

    Adaptor plates

When an engine has to be fitted to a gearbox it was never made for, the two do not bolt together. The bolt pattern, the spigot, the flywheel and the clutch all have to line up — and nobody sells a plate for that combination.

We design and machine the adaptor plate that joins them, made for that specific engine and gearbox. Bring us both, or the measurements and the part numbers, and we will work out the rest.

    From a sketch is fine

Most of this work starts with a description and a rough drawing on whatever paper was nearby. That is enough to begin. What matters is understanding what it has to carry, where it has to fit, and what it has to survive.

We will come back with questions before we build, because the questions are cheaper than the rebuild:

    • What does it carry, and how heavy is that
    • Where does it live, and how much space is there
    • Does it move, and if so how far and over what surface
    • Indoors or outdoors
    • Does anything need to come apart for maintenance later

    Built to be worked on

A purpose-built item usually lasts as long as the machine it serves, which means someone will need to maintain it years from now. Where it makes sense, we build with standard sizes, standard fasteners and bearings that can be bought over a counter — so a repair in five years is a repair, not another custom job.

    What this is not

We do not do structural steelwork — buildings, roof trusses, walkways and the like. This is equipment: the things that hold, move and mount the machinery, made in the same shop that machines the parts inside it.

    What we need from you

    • A sketch or a photograph of the situation
    • What it has to do and what it has to carry
    • The space it has to fit in
    • How many you need

Send it through and we will quote it.
